Candles

Our bodies are like candles,
Consumed from end to end,
Depleting all the power
God gives them to spend.
Candles flicker and dim,
Life shortens with the years.
Life vanishes like a vapor;
Ascending it disappears.
God’s love is not consumed;
Love has no breadth or bottom.
His children continues to love,
Proving He has wrought them.
There’s always light in heaven.
No candles are needed there.
They have no need of the sun.
The light of the Lamb they share.
The city had no need of the sun,
neither of the moon, to shine in it:
for the glory of God did lighten it,
and the Lamb is the light thereof.
