Passed Over

Tragedy struck at the swimming hole

Although it began with play.

We were playing in the mud.

Don’t throw mud, my mom would say.

But being very foolish

I tossed a few toward my sister

And to my horror

I found I hadn’t missed her.

There covering the side

Of her little blond head

Was a muddy missile.

I was filled with dread.

An awful thought struck me.

Her hearing it might damage.

How this could be remedied?

I could not imagine.

I in great panic

Left her with older sister.

When I got home to Mother

She would my backside blister.

For hours I prayed in the orchard.

Our house was in my view.

I cast all my care on God.

Not else I knew to do.

Then quietly I came in

And what to my surprise

There was my little sister

With a smile and shining eyes.

No one was angry with me.

The thing was done and over.

In my heart I praised the Lord

My transgression was passed over.

“What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.” Psalms 56:3 KJV
